Yusuf delivers a lecture on poetic appreciation----------------------

Egyptian poet Abdel Rahman yusuf delivered a lecture on Arab poetry, its history, its new trends and the basis for a true poetic appreciation.
The lecture was delivered by an invitation "Egypt institute for culture and dialogue" as participation from the poet in its summer activities, intended to elevate the taste of the youngsters and to deepen their relation with the Arab heritage.
The lecture was delivered in "mahmoud khaleel" museum on Tuesday, July 20th 2004.

Yusuf meets prominent Egyptian novelist naguib mahfooz----------------------

Egyptian upcoming poet Abdul Rahman yusuf met Egyptian novelist and Nobel Prize winner naguib mahfooz on Tuesday June 22nd 2004 in "farah" boat in the river Nile.
Yusuf delivered some of his poems which impressed mahfooz who said that he admired what he heard and wished the poet and his generation of young Egyptians writers the best of luck.
The meeting was attended by several Egyptian and Arab writers, including the well known Egyptian novelist gamal al ghetani.

(A toast to the homeland) poetic collection is now in stores----------------------

Today, june 1st 2004, you may find the first poetic collection by abdelrahman yusuf in stores in Cairo, Beirut and different capitals round the world
The collection is entitled "A toast to the homeland" and it is a political satire type.
Yusuf said that the collection is an attempt to put the current situation of the Arab world in focus, and to analyze the real cause of it, which is, according to the poet is the dysfunctional Arab political leadership, which has an allegiance different of that of their people, which causes all the attempts of reform and development in all fields to be suppressed.
He also admitted that because of the political satire of the Arab regimes included in the collection, he was unable to find a publisher for so long!

A biography of the poet----------------------

-Born on September 18th 1970
-A participant in several cultural seminars in Egypt and across the Arab world.
-published his poems in several Egyptian and Arab magazines and newspapers.
-has published 6 poetic collections so far:

- Yusuf believes in the originality of the poetic form which depends on measure and rhyme, he also believes in renewal that is based on adaptation from the long Arab heritage, yet he opposes renewal that is based on adapting western artistic forms.
-he also believes in the necessity of freeing the Arab nation from both the foreign interference and domestic oppression, he believes that the only way for advancement is through Arab unity that is based on political freedom and aims at achieving social justice.

Introduction:
Most of the poems in this collection were written the Israeli aggression on Lebanon in the summer of 2006, almost all of them with the exception of the poem "writing the history of tomorrow" were published in several newspapers in both Cairo and London, as usual, the poems were subjected to omissions made by narrow minded censors.
Just a few days before the war ended, and before the un security council call for a cease fire, I started writing the poem "writing the history of tomorrow" in which I tried to define victory, it is also an attempt to meditate in the history of the Arab- Israeli struggle and predicting its future.
Yet, I found difficulty in writing this poem
I felt uninspired and a voice inside me was telling me "you wont be able to write this poem, unless you go to the liberated south Lebanon yourself".

I answered this call, and I went to south Lebanon shortly after the war ended, I visited many of the places where the fighting took place, I saw the ruins and destruction in the and Beirut's southern suburb before it was lift up by the bulldozers and above all, I saw the heroes who made this victory.
Then, and only then, the poem started to flow through my pen, it gave itself to my as if she was a woman who yielded herself to her lover after a long refusal.
Everyday, I would examine what I have written down and think of what I didn’t write yet, till the final poem, which took me weeks to write, finally came out at the 26 th of the holy month of Ramadan.
It was written between Cairo ,Alexandria ,qana, Beirut and bent jebil.
Till now, I consider it to be a very special emotional experience.
And finally, I would like to thank the officials of Hezbollah for their assistance and for helping in visiting all the different sights that I wanted to see.

"I have nothing to loose" poetic collection

This collection consists of a number of poems which reveals the poet's vision of the phase that Egypt and the Arab nation is passing through in the current time.
This phase is considered a new birth for the Arab citizen , in which he started to mobilize and declare his disobedience against the totalitarian regimes that have subjected him for more than half a century.

Introduction:
A free poet is like a man who stands in the middle of a field with wheat seeds in the palm of his hand, so that birds from every shape and size can come and eat from it in peace and then fly again.
The moment that the bird comes down to eat from his hands is his ultimate moment of joy, because that bird is…poetry.
On the other hand, a poet who writes for the sake of money or who write it in their spare time, those are the ones who keep that bird in a locked cage, they can see him, yet they will never know the meaning of the moment when the bird eats from their hands and then flies again.
That's why, I have attempted to free my poems from all human desires and lusts, and I have tried my best to make it an expression of what's in my heart and soul, of people's feelings without any kind of lying or hypocrisy, without regard to the consequences, and in our times, free poetry surely has its consequences.
I have turned my entire into a poetic moment, I am still waiting for the bird to land on my hand and eat from it and then fly again.
I am also, still waiting for the consequences.

"A toast to the homeland", a poetic collection
This collection consists of 8 poems, the longest one is "a toast to the homeland", which portrays a drunk Arab, and the more he drinks, the more he drinks, the more desperate and daring he becomes, thus he crosses all the "red lines".
The poem is like a round at a bar, each part of it is like a glass of wine, and I was inspired by this poem after the occupation of Baghdad, as for the rest of the poems in this collection, they are a political vision in an artistic form of the current status of the Arab nation, both it s leaders and its people, proving that the real problem with this nation, lies in its leadership.

Introduction
No one would believe me if I said that this collection is not against a certain person or regime or government.
When I decided to publish this collection, many people advised me not to, that's why I will hold its full responsibility by my own. Because it is only a poet who can take responsibility for such a collection.
As for the reason why I insisted on publishing it, it is because I wanted to participate in the ongoing battle right now, not after it ends.

"Facing the mirror" poetic collection
"Facing the mirror" is a meditative collection, it is about the human being, body and soul, it also discusses the philosophy of art, how an artist suffers and also how he enjoys his art.

This is my first collection, I published it when I was 22 years old, it contains my early poems, and the whole collection is up to forty poems.

I don’t like long introductions, nor short ones
Because I believe that introductions in general are like a burden to art.
As for this collection, it could have been published with a long introduction written by a well known author, in addition to another introduction written by me, but I preferred to publish this collection with this short introduction, so that, quite frankly the reader may not be affected by what some critic thinks of me.
I didn’t want to bribe my reader by an introduction written by some well known writer, I just wanted to introduce my poems to him, without any kind of commentary by me or anyone else.
This collection contains some of earliest poems, that's why, my dear reader, you may find a difference in its style.
Some of the poems represent the phase when I was an amateur poet, yet I decided to put it in this collection because it marked a happy or a sad event, also because it represents one of the stages of my life as a man and a poet, or simply for a personal reason!
All I hope that this collection may be my birth certificate as a poet in the world of literature, meaningful literature ,elevated literature which I have always been a fan of and wanted to present.
As always, the first collection is either a poet's birth certificate or death declaration.
Dear reader, I hope I didn’t bore you with this introduction, so I leave you with this collection of poems, which I hope you will like.
